Chemistry: It Really Matters

The wonder and mystery of chemistry for all ages!

chemistry it really matters mobile ed chemical change experiment liquid

The excitement and enchantment of the world of chemistry comes to life with Mobile Ed's latest science assembly. We have taken the best and boldest from our past chemistry programs and added state-of-the-art science technology to create a presentation certain to capture the interests of students and staff alike. Students will be treated to an array of experiments which will enable them to develop a thorough understanding of the foundation of all matter: solids, liquids, and gases.

In addition to matter, the perils of environmental mistakes are discussed. Audience participation heightens the interest and the excitement of the students. We also explore natural gases. Students will observe how all of their senses are impacted by the power of gases mixed in different ways. Propane, oxygen, helium, and carbon dioxide are some of the gases explored.

The advancements in synthetic materials are examined as our presenter combines two chemicals which mushroom into a pillow of polyfoam. It is then formed into the shape of a giant yellow "Frisbee" type flying saucer which is left with the school as a memento of our visit.

Safety is an underlying theme of the entire presentation. Students will gain a valuable lesson as they are shown why it is so important to always follow instructions, always use appropriate safety equipment, and never take anything for granted.

All presentations are tailored for each age group (K-9) and will provide appropriate academic content.

Hands-on workshops are also available. For younger students (grades 3 and 4) topics such as the use of liquid nitrogen are explored. Older students (grades 5 through 9) will have the chance to solve a mock bank robbery by exploring the uses of chromatography. A more comprehensive look into acids and bases may also be used during the workshops.
