Summer Reading Programs that Offer Rewards

Written by Sharon Francis | Mon, Jun 30, 2025

With school out of the way, summer provides ample time for reading! But keeping young readers motivated throughout the summer months can be difficult. One of the best ways to incentivize reading this summer is by pursuing challenges that reward tangible prizes. Whether it’s a free book or a free meal, having a fun goal to work towards can be just what a young reader needs to get motivated. Below are four summer reading programs that reward readers for their diligence and dedication.

1. Earn a Free Pizza with the BOOK IT! Program

BOOK IT! is a free reading app designed to help parents and educators incentivize reading by setting goals and tracking progress throughout the journey. Children who meet their reading goals from June through August can earn a special reward: a free Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza! Readers can set timers to track their reading, maintain daily reading streaks, and even monitor the status of their next free pizza with a helpful pie chart.

2. Win a Free Book with Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program

Visit Barnes & Noble to download their Summer Reading Journal. After reading any eight books, have your reader fill out the journal, highlighting their favorite part of each book. Between July and August, bring the completed journal to participating Barnes & Noble stores to receive a free book. Your reader will get to choose from a list of books appropriate to their age range while supplies last.

3. Score a Free Backpack with Books-A-Million’s Summer Reading Adventure

Download your free Summer Reading Adventure Logbook from the Books-a-Million website. Select any four books featured as part of the Summer Reading Adventure program and have your reader write down the title, author, their favorite character, and what they thought was the best part of the story in the logbook. Once finished, visit your local Books-A-Million store to share your completed logbook with a store associate to claim your free backpack!

4. Earn a Free Kids Meal for Your Class through Read With Me by Panda Express

For educators looking to incentivize a whole classroom of readers, visit Panda Express to enroll your students in the Read With Me program. Your class will receive paper bookmarks upon starting the program. Each student will have an individual reading goal of five books. Once the goal is completed, the student receives a coupon for a free meal at Panda Express!

Reap the Rewards of Reading

Summer programs can be a great way to help encourage and sustain reading habits while school is out. When a student meets a goal, compounding that sense of accomplishment with a tangible reward can help them positively associate with reading, turning it into something fun that they look forward to doing. Don’t forget to check with your local library for more reading programs and activities this summer, and consider online reading communities for kids such as Scholastic’s Home Base app that brings the reading experience to life using interactive digital features. Happy reading!

Reinforce Reading Habits with Young Authors’ Day

Help keep that newfound reading habit alive with Mobile Ed’s Young Authors’ Day assembly! This workshop-style program offers a unique full-day experience in which students learn all about storytelling from an unlikely character—a mime! Our presenter guides students through the creative writing process, encouraging them to tap into their imaginations and express their ideas through writing. The audience will use what they’ve learned to create their own stories for the chance to have their story performed by our presenter at the end of the day. Contact Mobile Ed Productions today to schedule Young Authors’ Day for your readers!
