The Earth Dome: Geography from a New Perspective

Written by Sharon Francis | Mon, Oct 26, 2026

Geography can be a tough subject for students to connect with, as they often have only an abstract understanding of the planet through 2-D maps or charts. For some students, you’d practically need a globe as tall as a giraffe to get them excited about geography…Luckily, Mobile Ed can help with exactly that! Our Earth Dome assembly features a giant inflatable globe that travels directly to your school, providing students with a unique educational experience that gets them eager to learn about geography while offering a new perspective on the planet. Keep reading to discover why this assembly is such a hit with students and teachers alike!

Why Mobile Ed’s Earth Dome is a “World-Class” Choice

Mobile Ed’s Earth Dome is a fantastic resource for educators seeking a unique way to enhance their lessons and spark curiosity about geography. This program helps convey the scale of the planet in a more tangible way than a map or a globe. Students are presented with a colossal, up-close visual model of planet Earth, helping them better understand geological and geographical concepts and how different parts of the world connect.

Over the years, teachers and educators have praised the Earth Dome for its engaging, hands-on learning approach. This giant, inflatable dome experience incorporates curriculum-aligned science standards into each 30-minute session. Tailored to each grade level, this assembly is suitable for the whole school. The Earth Dome may only be a fraction of the Earth’s true size, but at nearly two stories tall, it sure feels massive inside a school gymnasium!

Geography on a Massive Scale

The Earth Dome is Mobile Ed’s biggest assembly, yet! Standing at 19 feet tall and 22 feet in diameter, this gigantic, inflatable dome gives students an up-close, detailed look at the Earth from the inside out. It is so massive, in fact, that you have to go inside of it for an unobstructed view of the Northern Hemisphere! Inside, students can better visualize the Earth as a round, three-dimensional planet, despite how it is often portrayed on flat maps.

Outside, the dome is made up of 24 panels with silkscreened prints of the Earth as captured by satellites on cloud-free days, providing as authentic a view of the planet as possible without having to launch into orbit to see it! With the Earth Dome, students get an up-close view of the planet and its unique geographical features, from its oceans and continents to mountains, lakes, and rivers. Our presenter will explain to students how we use concepts like latitude and longitude, as well as time zones, to better understand and navigate the Earth.
