The investigation of the astronomical knowledge of prehistoric cultures

The story of your fascinating Celestial Voyage presentation will start in the ancient times, when the main lens for the observation of the heavens was not in a telescope, but in the imagination of our human ancestors.

Your expert presenter will use our state-of-the-art digital SkyDome Planetarium to not only explore the galaxy, but also to introduce how the Glass Lens Revolution shifted the focus of astronomy from numerous mythological explanations of the heavens, to purely scientific explanations.

The presentation will provide practical and efficient instructions to your students about how to use various constellations in order to find the most important star in our night sky, Polaris.  We will also explore how the ancient Egyptians related to the most important star in their constellation system, Sirius.  Other ancient cultures in which various constellations provided a farming calendar will also be discussed.

The presentation will culminate by traveling through time to ultimately learn how the passing of time changes our celestial perspectives!

  • An indoor area large enough to fit the 36' diameter dome with a ceiling 15' high at its lowest point.  Please note: A smaller sky dome is also available which requires an indoor area large enough to fit the 16' diameter dome with a ceiling 9 1/2' tall.
  • One AC electrical outlet.
  • Custodial or adult assistance for load-in and set-up
