10 Ways Assemblies Benefit Students of All Ages

Assemblies help share information with students, create school spirit, and a lot of the time are just plain fun! Schools have times when they need to bring their students together for one reason or another. Here at Mobile Ed, we believe large gatherings of students (in-person or virtual) are powerful ways to meet students' required curriculums while bringing big smiles and laughs.

Over 40 years ago, our team started bringing students together for reasons other than school rules; we brought students together to learn and have fun at the same time! For decades, we have seen first-hand how assemblies can encourage learning in new ways, make students smile, and motivate them in ways they’ve never been before. We’ve taken our decades of experience performing programs across the country and written down the most valuable parts of what we do.

Assemblies have the ability to:

  • Inform students about topics relevant to the school curriculum. Before anything else, our assemblies are designed to educate students on a subject to the best of our ability. The time taken to conduct an assembly can be a powerful tool for effectively educating large groups of students with content that is both interesting and required by schools.

  • Engage students in appealing ways outside of their normal routine. Though we believe the benefits of routine in classrooms are powerful, students might start to feel bored when the routine is no longer stimulating. Hosting a school assembly mixes up a student’s usual routine just enough that they can focus on the tasks at hand while then feeling rejuvenated enough to back to their normal routine.

  • Offer opportunities to learn social awareness and discipline. Large gatherings at school are a safe place for students to learn how to act when they are in a large group of people. When attending an assembly, a student learns what’s appropriate behavior for being a spectator by learning patience, self-control, and respect for others.

  • Create opportunities for students to step outside of their comfort zone. Many school assemblies often include students as part of the presentation. This is a great way to keep students focused while also providing them opportunities to volunteer for activities, answer questions, solve problems, and work in groups. Assemblies that are engaging to students may encourage them to participate and engage in ways they don’t usually.

  • Provide new experiences not found inside the classroom. Educators do an excellent job at teaching and engaging students inside their classrooms, but assemblies specialize in supporting educators in ways that are hard to do alone. With our team, we are able to design programs, provide technology, and demonstrate concepts that could be harder to do with a busy classroom, filled schedule, and strict budget.

  • Give students access to cutting-edge technology. Several of Mobile Ed’s programs include modern technology and awesome science experiments that may be hard for students to experience otherwise. Our team values using technology for helping students learn. Mobile Ed has the ability for students to have hands-on experiences with new technology, providing an experience that is exciting, engaging, memorable, and educational.

  • Motivate students to dig into learning. New opportunities can help increase engagement in your classrooms, but showing students how fascinating and relatable school subjects are could fuel a passion they didn’t know they had! Assemblies use different learning styles throughout, so your students have a high chance of comprehending the material.

  • Creates unity with other students. Gathering together with a large group provides the perfect opportunity to meet new students, relate to new people, and share experiences that they’ll carry with them forever. In an assembly, students share impactful and motivational experiences that can bring students together in ways they weren’t able to in smaller environments. It’s important at any age to feel like a valued member of the community. Assemblies are a simple way to make students feel included while also informing them, motivating them, and teaching them.

  • Allow students to think critically about information. Assemblies provide students with large amounts of information and the opportunity to experience school subjects in new ways that might allow your students to think more deeply about a topic they haven’t before. Demonstrations, audience participation, and polls inspire thinking and the ability to start making connections and think critically.

  • Instill confidence in your students. Unity, participation, and education are all ways to empower the students in your classroom, and a 45-minute program has the ability to give all three. Have students feel motivated, excited, and confident that they can learn challenging topics and take education into their own hands.
