Make a Magic Flipping Bottle | Fun Activity

Posted on Fri, Jun 15, 2018

Hey everybody!  Handy Dan is back for another summer of fun activities!  We're going to start things off with an activity you'll flip for - a magic flipping bottle!  Learn how to impress your family and friends with a water bottle that will always land right side up when you flip it.  It may look like magic, but it's really science at work!  Check it out!

Watch Handy Dan and Junkbot teach you how to make a magic flipping bottle!

Step 1: Gather your supplies

This one's easy!  You only need:

  • A plastic water bottle (preferably with a flat bottom)
  • Water

All you need is a plastic bottle - preferably one with a flat bottom.

That's it!

Step 2: Fill the bottle

Fill the bottle ¼ full with ordinary tap water.

Fill the bottle 1/4 full and tighten the cap!

Make sure you tighten the cap to seal the bottle!

Step 3: Flip the bottle!

Alright, the moment you've been waiting for is finally here!

Grasp the cap with three fingers.

Use 3 fingers to comfortably hold the top of the bottle.

Use your wrist to gently swing the bottle back and forth to get a sense of the feeling of the unbalanced weight.  Can you feel that?

Gently swing the bottle to get a feel for it! Practice makes perfect!

Time it just right!  Let go of the bottle when it swings away from your body.

Watch the video above to see how Handy Dan does it!

Try and try again. It takes patience and practice to make a successful flip, but it's worth it!
