A New Fan-Favorite Virtual Assembly: Celestial Voyage

Mobile Ed began offering Virtual Programs in 2020 when the health and safety of our community took priority. Our team got to work on redesigning all of our well-loved programs to be adapted for a virtual environment so students wouldn’t have to fall behind and educators could have more resources. Though we now offer many virtual programs, our educators are quickly developing a favorite: Celestial Voyage. 

If you take a look at any culture, it doesn't take long to find the signs and tells of astronomy deeply rooted within them. In ancient times, astronomy was studied and used as an essential tool in helping people determine the timing of important agricultural events like spring planting and fall harvests. The orientation of the ancient constellations was used as a clock by which time could be measured. “Indigenous astronomy“ was the astronomy that existed long before the Ancient Greeks and the modern era.

Students may be anxious to learn about all-things outer space after the many recent reports of successful space missions, including one flight carrying well-known actor William Shatner, and hands-on activities are the best way to grab your students' attention and keep them engaged. 

2021 has been a ground-breaking year for space travel and space tourism. Despite a deadly worldwide pandemic, weakened economies, and continued concerns surrounding climate change, several privately-owned companies have had successful efforts traveling beyond the earth’s atmosphere to the edge of space.

Learning about space is fascinating for so many, and we are certain your students will agree. Our educators that work with Mobile Ed Productions have used this quick-and-easy sundial project many times when teaching about the earth’s rotation in their classrooms.
